Bright Morning Star
Portraits of Christ | Bright Morning Star
I am...the Bright Morning Star. (Revelation 22:16)
I love to gaze through the leafless canopy of trees into the starry winter sky. The sky seems so dark and the stars so bright, like diamonds scattered across a blanket of black velvet. When I look up at the stars, in awestruck wonder I always reflect back to the words of the psalmist, "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained...What is man, that thou art mindful of him?" (Psalm 8:3-4).
As daylight approaches, one by one the stars begin to fade from view. Until one star is left alone shining brightly in the sky - the Bright Morning Star. Those things which now shine so brightly on the horizon of our lives will someday fade and vanish away. The stars of prestige, position, possessions, and persons dear to us will one by one grow dim and fade away in the light of His glory and grace. But after everything else has vanished, Christ will still shine brilliantly. Whether the dawn breaks and shadows are fleeing, or in the darkest night of your life, Jesus will shine above all else. He will be a fixed star in the heavens on which you can chart your course, an anchor for the soul and foundation for your life.
Christ is our Star. His radiance penetrates the deepest darkness of man's soul and needs. He is the unerring Guide who will lead us safely through our journey of life. With the psalmist we may say, "My times are in your hands." (Psalm 31:15). In that ultimate word and universe of the spirit, the grandeur and glory of Jesus Christ is without comparison.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
