Mickaelly is a child I sponsor through Compassion International. She is 8 years old, and lives in Brazil with her mother. Her duties at home include buying or selling in the market, running errands and cleaning. There are 4 children in the family, and her mother is occasionally employed as a laborer. For fun, Mickaelly enjoys playing with dolls, bicycling and hide-and-seek. She attends church activities and Bible class regularly and is in primary school where her performance is average. Please keep Mickaelly, her family, and the community in your prayers.
Mickaelly lives in the hillside community of Tuntum, home to approximately 43,000 residents (location marked by the red circle on the map below). Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud walls and tile roofs. The spoken language is Portuguese. The regional diet consists of maize, bread, rice, beans and cuxá (leaf typical of the area). Common health problems in this area include diarrhea, intestinal worms, hepatitis, tonsillitis and respiratory diseases. Most adults in Tuntum work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $248 per month. This community needs improved sanitation, clean water, schools, teachers and employment opportunities.
Sponsorship allows the staff of Lançando a Semente Student Center to provide Mickaelly with Bible studies, health education, recreational activities and tutoring. The center staff also provides meetings and lectures about family for her mother.
